Journey into the ice

At 8:00, TSH and Diva stepped from Silver Spirit onto the local catamaran which was to take them to Laguna San Rafael and the San Valentin glacier. They had no breakfast, so the presence on board of Silver Spirit waiters with Silver Spirit snacks and drinks was very welcome. One snack was a lobster macaroon which tasted as bizarre as it sounds.

As the catamaran approached the lagoon and the glacier, the chunks of ice in the water became more numerous, more blue and much bigger. The temperature dropped and TSH and Diva were pleased with their many-layered outfits. The glacier itself was huge, blue and criss-crossed with grooves. A minor calving occurred when a small piece broke off and crashed into the water in front of the catamaran.

The whole event was spectacular, helped by Silver Spirit's determination to enhance it. There was a line of butlers to see off the group and another to welcome them back on board.

The guests were taken to the glacier in four tranches, with the last due to return at about 21:30, having missed dinner. TSH and Diva prefer to miss breakfast.

The butler has supplied a replacement bottle of champagne.
